Severe Tooth Pain? Here Is What to Do Right Now in Hyderabad

Acute tooth pain is one of the most debilitating experiences. This guide tells you exactly what to do in the first hour, what the common causes are, and when to come in immediately.

Severe tooth pain rarely improves on its own — and waiting almost always makes the underlying problem worse. If you are in pain right now in Hyderabad, here is exactly what to do.

Call Us First

Dr. Sri Sushma Multispeciality Dental Clinic in Anandbagh is open every day from 9AM to 10PM, including Sundays and public holidays. Call +91 79958 15454 immediately. We prioritise pain cases and will see you the same day in almost all situations.

What to Do While You Wait

Take a painkiller. Ibuprofen (400mg) or paracetamol (500mg) are both effective for tooth pain. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum — this causes chemical burns.

Rinse with warm salt water. Mix half a teaspoon of table salt in warm water and rinse gently. This reduces inflammation and helps clear food debris from around the painful area.

Apply a cold compress. If your cheek is swollen, hold a cold pack wrapped in cloth against the outside of your face for 15 minutes at a time. Never apply heat to a dental abscess — it accelerates the infection.

Avoid hot, cold, or sweet foods. These trigger sharp pain spikes if there is nerve involvement.

Common Causes of Severe Tooth Pain

Dental abscess: Bacterial infection inside the tooth or surrounding gum. You may notice persistent throbbing pain, swelling, fever, or a pimple on the gum. Requires urgent treatment — usually root canal or drainage.

Deep cavity: When decay reaches close to the nerve, the tooth becomes sensitive to temperature and pressure. Treated with root canal if the nerve is involved, or a filling if caught early.

Cracked tooth: Causes sharp pain when biting, often followed by a dull ache. Some cracks are invisible on X-ray and require careful examination.

Wisdom tooth impaction: A partially erupted wisdom tooth trapping food and bacteria causes pain, swelling, and sometimes difficulty opening the mouth. Very common in patients aged 18–30.

Post-extraction dry socket: If you had a tooth removed 3–5 days ago and pain is increasing rather than decreasing, you may have dry socket. Call us immediately.

When to Go to a Hospital Emergency Room

Go immediately if you experience difficulty swallowing or breathing, swelling spreading to your neck or throat, high fever above 39°C with dental pain, or inability to open your mouth at all. These are signs the infection has spread beyond the tooth and require immediate medical attention.

At Dr. Sri Sushma Multispeciality Dental Clinic we keep emergency slots available every day specifically for patients in pain. We take a digital X-ray on arrival, provide immediate pain relief through anaesthesia, and begin definitive treatment in the same appointment wherever possible.

Do not suffer. Call +91 79958 15454 right now.
